Laces and Lace

Nine years ago, things were perfect. Lacey and Karson had found their happily ever after in each other…or so they thought. How do two people who were meant to be move on from that once-in-a-lifetime love?

Lacey has a strength inside her that comes alive with the things she’s most passionate about. She’s a fighter, a survivor, and has everything she’s ever wanted but the one thing that matters most—love.

Karson is doing the one thing he loves most—playing hockey for the Assassins, yet he knows regret. He knows his life has been missing the one thing he walked away from so many years ago—Lacey.

Nine years later, and neither has been able to succeed in moving on from what was, what could have been, and who each of their hearts still beats for. When a chance encounter during a fateful night has their paths crossing again, will the tether still attaching their souls allow them to face the past, present, and a possible future?

Can two people with fate on their side find a way back to each other? Overcome all the obstacles in their way to finally live life together to the fullest?

Or will they let those around them and the circumstances they face, along with questions and doubt, ruin a second chance at the life they both deserve?

Laces and Lace includes the prequel Tangled in the Laces, a dollar of your purchase will be donated to the Nashville Predators Foundation.

isho-my-opinion2I have loved each and every book in the Assassins series.  This one was a little different for me.  I cried A LOT during this one [Note: I may or may not have been PMSing].  It’s such a touching story.  Seriously!

The relationship between Karson and Lacey is beautiful!  It’s one of those love at first sight things.  Of course, things happen that keep them from being together and it was gut wrenching. I did mention that I cried a lot, didn’t I?

After all the years apart they meet up again and give it a go.  Once again, people and “stuff” get in the way.

Karson has to be the sweetest, hottest hockey player I’ve ever read.  I loved how he felt about Lacey and how he treated her and how sure he was about his love for her.

Lacey is definitely one of the strongest female characters I’ve read.  Having gone through all that she did and to still be willing to love….yeah…I cried.

It also goes without saying that it’s always nice to see the characters from the other books.  They always make me smile.

I cannot forget to mention that when purchasing this book one dollar will go to charity.  WIN/WIN!!!!

I would say this is my favourite Assassins book.  So beautiful.  Toni Aleo has definitely outdone herself.  I gave Laces and Lace five cups of delicious coffee that made me feel the same way I do when I have that very first sip of coffee in the morning.

Title: Breaking Away

Author: Toni Aleo

Series: Assassins #5

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

Publication: June 10, 2014

BREAKING AWAY is a story of loss, healing, and love… where unexpected turns and heartache lead to passion.

To Nashville Assassins’ leading scoring center Phillip Anderson, playing hockey has always been easy… as natural as breathing. His life is no different. That’s until his world is turned upside down by the death of his sister. While mourning his loss, Phillip has to find a way to make his very angry sixteen-year-old niece, Claire, happy. Now, as her guardian, he discovers the only thing that seems to heal her lonely heart is dance class. But what he didn’t count on was the attraction he’d feel towards her drop-dead sexy dance teacher.

For Reese Allen, dancing has always been part of her soul. After having her heart broken in New York, she comes home with the determination to make her dance studio one of the best in Tennessee and succeeds. When she sees Claire dance for the first time, she knows the girl is bound for greatness and takes the troubled teen under her wing. Using dance as therapy, she suddenly finds herself bound to the young woman… and her hot-as-sin uncle.

However, Phillip and Reese are happy in their single lives. It’s simple. They do what they want, who they want, and how they want, but from the moment they meet, the attraction is undeniable. Soon, they are more than willing to spend just one night tangled in the sheets. But, one night turns into two, and two turns into three, until they find themselves in a repeated dance of “One Last Time” that has the potential to be something more… if only Reese and Claire allow it.

Can Phillip find a way to thaw the hearts of both the women in his life, or will he be forever trying to break them away from their pasts?

I received an ARC of Breaking Away in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is book #5 in the Assassins Series. I loved the other books so I’m sure you won’t be surprised if I tell you that I loved Phillip and Reese’s story.

Phillip is the sexy hockey player who plays the field until he meets Reese. Going along with her on the concept that they’re “just having fun” he finds that maybe it’s more than just fun and that she means a lot more to him.

Reese is a beautiful dancer who had her heart broken and is now afraid to let anyone in for fear of being hurt. When she sees sexy and charming Phillip she embarks on “fun” times with him and scares herself when she realizes that it might just be more than fun.

Luckily for Reese, Phillip is a very patient man and he’s willing to wait for her to realize she can’t live without him.

Then there’s Claire, Phillip’s niece. She’s had to suffer things that no sixteen year old should have to endure. When she first goes to live with Phillip she is mistrustful but once again, Phillip is patient and just keeps right on loving her, hoping that eventually she will come around and understand that he won’t let her down.

I loved Phillip and Reese together. They were fun and sexy. Throw in all the other characters from the previous books and it was a truly enjoyable book to read. I’m not gonna lie. I did shed a few tears, but everyone knows what a sap I am. I definitely gave this five very hot and steamy cups of coffee.

What I’m currently reading:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This has been on my to read list for a long while.  Second born (and her little friends) read it recently and has been insisting that I read it as well.  At our house, we have a rule: You don’t go watch the movie unless you’ve read the book first.  Needless to say, I have been reminded of MY rule and told that I have to follow the rule too.  So now, both First born and I are reading the book before going to the movie theatre on Thursday.  I’m about halfway through and really enjoying it.  I’ve been reluctant to read it for no other reason than I’m scared. I’m a big sap and I just know this book is going to wreck me.

What I recently read:

Breaking Away by Toni Aleo

This is book 5 in the Assassins series.  I’ve loved this series. I loved this book.  My opinion will be posted later this week.

What I hope to read next:

Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton

This is the followup to Wallbanger, book 2 in the Cocktail series.  I’ve missed Simon and Caroline.  I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve been up to.

Now tell me what your W…W…W… are. Please and thank you.

What I recently read:

Waking Up In Vegas by Stevie Kisner

This is a book that I heard about and put on my to read list months ago.  For some reason the release was delayed until last Friday.  I was on that like flies on….well…you get what I mean.  I LOVED IT!!! It was definitely worth the wait.  It was funny and sexy.  5 STARS!!!!

What I hope to read next:

Taint by S.L. Jennings

I’m hearing so much about this one.  I’m anxious to start reading it.
