Cream of the Crop

ISHO Summary

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton brings her trademark blend of funny and sexy to this second contemporary romance in the brand-new Hudson Valley series!

Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is…cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be…love?

isho-my-opinion2

This is book two in Alice Clayton’s Hudson Valley series.  When we were briefly introduced to Natalie and Oscar in the first book I knew I wanted to know more about the quiet creamery owner.

As expected when reading Alice Clayton books there were plenty of laugh out loud moments.  An exchange between Natalie and Oscar that included  the quote: “great comma big ass” was my absolute favourite. [Note of advice:  don’t read Alice Clayton books at work.  It’s hard to explain why you’re laughing your ass off.]

Natalie was one of my favourite book characters.  She’s a successful advertising exec and a big girl that owns her curves.  She makes men bow down to her.  Except for when she sees Oscar.  Oscar is the only man that makes her a little tongue-tied.

As for Oscar…*swoon*…he’s a beautiful, quiet man.  I think that he sees things in a simple manner.  He doesn’t get sucked into drama.  Aaaaaand he makes cheese! That’s a win in my book.  He’s a fantastic book boyfriend.

Cream of the Crop gets four delicious cappuccinos made with delicious  milk from Bailey Falls Creamery and served with some delicious brie.  I am definitely looking forward to the third book in this series.

ISHO SummaryFrom New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton, the first in a brand-new romance series telling the humorously sexy tale of Roxie, a private chef who gets a taste of love—but is it to stay, or to go?

After losing almost all of her clients in one fell swoop following an accident involving whipped cream, private chef to Hollywood’s elite Roxie Callahan gets a call from her flighty mother, saying she’s needed home in upstate New York to run the family diner. Once she’s back in the Hudson Valley, local organic farmer Leo delivers Roxie a lovely bunch of walnuts, and soon sparks—and clothing—begin to fly. Leo believes that everything worth doing is worth doing slowly…and how! But will Roxie stay upstate, or will the lure of West Coast redemption tempt her back to Tinseltown?

isho-my-opinion2Once again, I’ve loved an Alice Clayton book!  As usual, I’ve giggled my ass off and totally fallen in love with her characters.

Roxie goes back to her home town to take over her mom’s diner since her mom will be on a reality show.  She agrees to do this under duress but she soon discovers that her home town isn’t so bad.  She becomes friends with the her old high school hottie, Chad, and she even learns to deal with all the town gossip.

Of course, making it all much more exciting is Leo, the local farmer.  Let me rephrase: the local SEXY and OH SO HOT farmer.  As she and Leo become closer she makes sure that he understands that it’s just a summer fling.  Or is it?  The longer she stays there the more she questions what’s back in California for her.  Their relationship is fun and easy until…there’s a big surprise.

As I said above, I really did enjoy this book and laughed and giggled through a lot of it.  I don’t think I’ll every be able to look at bee again without laughing.  Nuts got five steaming lattes from me, served with Roxie’s black walnut cake (made with Leo’s nuts of course) 😉

The Book Barista Reviews Screwdrivered by Alice Clayton

LogoScrewdrivered

ISHO SummaryIn the third book in the bestselling Cocktail series, a romantic at heart decides that she will not ever, under any circumstances, fall for the engineer next door.

Viv Franklin is a retired Army captain who now designs software programs. She’s also a romance junkie who longs for a knight in shining armor or a cowboy on a wild stallion or a strapping firefighter to sweep her off her feet. Knowing she’s never going to meet her hero by spending all her time behind her keyboard, she uproots her life to move to California, where she meets an actual cowboy. And—sigh—an engineer. But which man is truly Clark Kent and which is her Superman?

A madcap romantic comedy with unforgettable characters and the promise of true love, Screwdrivered has just what you need.

I received an advance copy of this in exchange for my honest opinion. If there’s a new Alice Clayton book released, I’M SO THERE FOR IT!!!  I love her sweet and funny love stories.  She did not disappoint with Screwdrivered.

We first met Viv in Rusty Nailed…let me take a moment to think back on Simon and Caroline and Clive…*sigh*… Viv is an old friend of Simon’s.  She’s inherited an old house from her aunt and immediately dives in to restore the house that holds great memories for her.

Viv loves reading romance novels and isn’t afraid to admit it.  Since coming to her house, she’s met Hank the guy her aunt had taking care of the farm animals, and she’s met Clark, the local librarian who comes around to remind her that her house is a historical building and therefore she cannot do any work to it without consent…HIS consent. She lusts after Hank and becomes friends with Clark.  Once you start reading the book you’ll know who you’ll be rooting for.

I found Screwdrivered to be a fun, fast, easy read and gave it five hot and delicious cups of freshly ground coffee.

aliceclayton_picNovelist Alice Clayton makes her home in St. Louis where she enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up after, and is trying desperately to get her long-time boyfriend to make her an honest woman–and please buy her a Bernese Mountain dog.

After working for years in the cosmetics industry as a makeup artist, esthetician, and educator, Alice picked up a pen (read laptop) for the first time at 33 to begin a new career: author. Having never written anything longer than a grocery list, she soon found writing to be the creative outlet she’d been missing since walking away from the theater 10 years before.

She has a great time combining her love of storytelling with a sense of silly, and she was shocked and awed to be nominated for a Goodreads Author award in 2010 for her debut novels, the first two installments of The Redhead Series–The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed. Her latest novel Wallbanger is a return to her trademark comedic erotica, or funny smut, that Alice has become known for.

Additionally, Alice loves spending time with her besties on Not Your Mother’s Podcast (check them out on iTunes) and has recently partnered with actor Greg Grunberg, blogger Brittany Gibbons, and actress Keili Lefkovitz on a new travel show that will begin filming in January.

Alice enjoys pickles, Bloody Marys, eight hours of sleep and a good pounding.

“Okay, yes.  I admit it.  I think I’m living in a romance novel.  Go ahead and laugh,” I said, rocking a little faster.

“I’m not going to laugh.  Because I totally believe you,” she said, drinking nonchalantly.

ISHO SummaryIn this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

I loved Wallbanger!!!  That is the reason why I was thrilled to hear that we’d be getting more Wallbanger and Nightie Girl aka Simon and Caroline.  Once again Alice Clayton has written a funny, sexy story with definite laugh out loud moments.

In Rusty Nailed we see Simon and Caroline’s relationship grow.  Their relationship is mostly easy and and very sexy. [Note: A hammer and a tool belt will never be the same for me again.] With changes in their careers, more responsibilities for Caroline and some time off for Simon, things are a little different for them.

A big part of this book is the stories of the secondary characters, Caroline and Simon’s friends.  A few of these moments had me really laughing.  Of course, this review would not be complete without mentioning the most important character of all, CLIVE THE CAT!  I LOVE CLIVE!!!! I really enjoyed this book but Clive brought it up a notch…or ten.

I definitely gave this book five delicious steamy cappuccinos, with some catnip thrown in for Clive.

What I am currently reading:

I presently have two books on the go.  This is unusual for me.  I don’t normally like to do that, but I was strangely compelled. Don’t ask!!!

In Love with a Master by Jason Luke

I’m definitely enjoying this one.  I’m loving the deep insight the author has into women and what makes us tick.  My review will post next week.

The Resistance by S.L. Scott

I moved this one up my to read list.  I love me a hot rock star!  Dalton is broody and sexy and Holliday is a smart successful woman.  The two have great chemistry.  Definitely a 5 star read.

What I recently read:

Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton

I really liked this book.  It was nice to visit with Wallbanger again.  He’s so swoony and so good with tools (ie: hammer and tool belt)…you’ll get it when you read it. My review for this one will also post next week.

What I hope to read next:

Finger Bang by Jade C. Jamison

I finally got my ARC for this one.  I’ve been waiting for it since Jade C. Jamison started posting about it.  I just know I’m going to love Blaze.  I also know that Jade NEVER disappoints.

You know the drill.  It’s now your turn to tell me what your W…W…W…are.  You know you want to!!!

Who wouldn’t want more Wallbanger and Nightie Girl?  I’ve been looking forward to this for a while.  I’ll post my opinion closer to release date.

What I recently read:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

What can I say about this book that I haven’t said already.  I loved it so much even though it made me ugly snot sob.  (Note: I also watched the movie and snot sobbed some more.)  I know it’s a really sad book but it’s wonderfully written and definitely worth your investment in all those tissues. Okay? Okay.

What I hope to read next:

In Love with a Master by Jason Luke

This is the highly anticipated follow up to Interview with a Master.  When I read the first book I didn’t know what to expect (I was pleasantly surprised) but now that I know the brilliance that is Jason Luke’s writing I can’t wait to delve right in.

Now share with me your W…W…W…. Please and thank you.
