The Book Barista: Review of Inked Armor by Helena Hunting

I received an ARC of Inked Armor in exchange for my honest opinion.

Inked Armor

In this follow-up to Clipped Wings, the emotional love story continues between Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts. In the wake of losing Tenley Page, tattooist Hayden Stryker’s tumultuous past is haunting him. Plagued by nightmares about the murder of his parents, Hayden reaches out again to Tenley. Having run from the man she doesn’t believe she deserves, Tenley finally lays her guilt to rest. Despite their intense physical attraction, Hayden and Tenley struggle to repair their fragile emotional connection. As Hayden gets closer to the truth, he must find a way to reconcile his guilt over his parents’ death in order to keep the woman who finally cracked his armor, and found her way into his heart

My Opinion

This is the long-awaited sequel to Clipped Wings.  I totally fell in love with Hayden and Tenley and couldn’t wait to get to this book.

This book picks up right after where the first book left off.  Hayden is trying to cope with Tenley’s sudden departure. Tenley is dealing with Trey and wrapping up her parents’ and Connor’s estates.  She finally stands up to her asshole almost-brother-in-law and realizes that she needs to be with Hayden and that her life is in Chicago.

Hayden, in the meantime, is broken without Tenley.  He’s always had nightmares about his parents’ deaths but missing Tenley has made them worse.

After Tenley comes back he’s somewhat upset with her for leaving him in the first place and constantly needs her reassurance that she won’t be leaving again.  I think Tenley understands this and is more than willing to keep making him understand the depth of her feelings for him.

Tenley also helps him deal with the feelings of guilt he has over his parents’ deaths.  He eventually gets the closure he needs to move on from that horrible night.  They help each other deal with the guilt they each feel.

I loved this book so freakin’ much!!!!  I loved this series so freakin’ much. Hayden will forever be my most favourite pierced and inked book boyfriend in the history of book boyfriends!!! Five hot and steamy cups of java are not enough to convey how much I enjoyed this book.

Here’s where I’m at:

What I’m currently reading:

The King by J.R. Ward

I, like all other Black Dagger Brotherhood fans, have been waiting a year for this book.  As King Wrath is my favourite of all the characters, I know I’m going to love this.

What I recently read:

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I just finished this.  It took me a bit longer to get through the last few chapters as I had to keep stopping every few paragraphs because I was going to ugly snot sob.   Notwithstanding the “event” that made this so sad for me, I gave this a 5 star rating.  As I said in my Goodreads review, any book that can make me FEEL so much deserves 5 stars.

What I’m hoping to read next:

Inked Armor by Helena Hunting

This is the highly anticipated follow up to Clipped Wings.  I was glad that I was able to get an ARC from NetGalley.  I don’t want to wait any more!!!

The Book Barista: ARC Review Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting

I received an ARC of Clipped Wings from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Their body art is hot. Their chemistry is even hotter.

From her dark hair sweeping below her waist to her soft, sexy curves, Tenley Page intrigues tattoo artist Hayden Stryker in a way no one else ever has…especially when she asks him to ink a gorgeous, intricate design on her back. Yet for all her beauty, there is something darkly tragic and damaged about Tenley that Hayden is everything.

Covered in ink and steel, Hayden is everything Tenley has never dared to want, awakening a desire to explore more than the art adorning his stunning body. Trapped by a past that leaves her screaming from nightmares, Tenley sees Hayden as the perfect escape. Although he has secrets too, if they both keep themselves guarded perhaps their intense physical connection will remain only that.

But nothing, not even passion, can keep them safe from their pasts… Continue reading

The Book Barista: Cupcakes and Ink by Helena Hunting ARC Review

I was very happy to get this ARC from NetGalley.  Release date is scheduled for February 3rd.

Cupcakes and Ink

Tenley Page is looking for a new start: a new city, a new apartment, a new life. Her plan is to keep to herself and stay focused. But leaving her past behind and starting over isn’t as easy as she thought. And neither is maintaining her solitude. As Tenley settles into her new surroundings, she finds herself drawn to Inked Armor, the tattoo studio across the street. But it’s the gorgeous, dark-haired tattoo artist who captures her interest. There’s something about his severe beauty that captivates her—and not just in her waking hours.

Covered in the ink he inscribes on other people’s skin, Hayden Stryker has made a career out of being a tattooist. He’s got his own business and a tight circle of friends. As far as he’s concerned, that’s all he needs. At least until his aunt, who owns the antiques and used book store across from his tattoo studio, hires a new employee. At first his intrigue is based on physical appeal; hot chick equals something nice to look at. But as he begins to catch glimpses of the fiery personality under the fragile, feminine exterior, his fascination with Tenley grows. Annoyed by his inability to control his fixation, Hayden decides the best way to cure him of the new obsession is to get to know the girl under her skittish façade.

But like the ink he wears as armor, Tenley has the ability to get under his skin and stay there.

This is a short novella, which is a prequel to Clipped Wings. It gives us a little bit of insight into both Tenley and Hayden’s first few encounters.

Tenley watches Hayden from her apartment window across the street from the tattoo business he co-owns.  She can’t help but be mesmerized by his good looks.

“Beyond the eyebrow ring and the ones piercing the left corner of this bottom lip, the first thing I notices was his eyes.  They were astonishingly blue.  Not a sea blue, or a sky blue, or even a grayish blue.  They were icy and pale and shockingly intense against his dark hair and thick dark lashes.”

Hayden also is taken by the new girl. He can’t stop thinking about her.

This is a great sneak peek into Tenley and Hayden and leaves us ready and wanting more from them in Clipped Wings.

I definitely give it five steamy cups .
