Series: The Legal Briefs, #3
Author: Emma Chase
Release Date: January 19, 2016
The New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled books returns with the third romance in the Legal Briefs series, a collection of sexy novels about first crushes, second chances, and the final verdict of the heart.
When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.
When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.
But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.
But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
I’m not gonna lie. I pretty much love everything that Emma Chase writes. The lady can do no wrong in my eyes. I have loved this series from the beginning and I knew I was going to love Brent’s story.
This is one of those stories where the male and female knew each other in the past and something went terribly wrong (pronounced “misunderstandings”) and now they are reacquainting themselves. I guess you would call it a second chance romance. I loved it.
I loved Brent’s cockiness and ego. I really did!!! He’s a successful lawyer from a well-to-do family. Notwithstanding a terrible accident as a child his ego does not suffer because of it. I also really liked Kennedy. Once we got her story I could forgive all of her courtroom antics. She had every reason to be angry with Brent (because of the “misunderstandings”). Kennedy is also a successful prosecutor and lets Brent have it in the courtroom. They each have suffered a broken heart and now Brent is trying really hard to right past wrongs.
Another thing I loved was catching up with the other characters from the previous books in this series and seeing how their lives have progressed. [Note: Jake is my favourite!]
Aside from her great story telling abilities, Emma Chase writes the best male point of view. She does it with great humour. She may have been a guy in a previous life.
And since I’m going on and on about all the things that I loved about this book I’m going to throw in that this book had the best Twilight references ever! [Note: Yes I love Twilight and I love cats. You’ll see what I mean when you read this.] And what a great epilogue!
I gave Appealed five satisfying and delicious cups of coffee to warm you on a chilly day like today. I most definitely look forward to more from Emma Chase in the future.
