ISHO Summary

Indecent Proposal
Manwhore. That’s what the board of directors-and the tabloids-thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn’t care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing-and no one-will keep him from his life’s legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that’s exactly what he’ll give them.

Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents’ funky boutique hotel back-even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It’s a simple business contract – six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband .

I know what you’re thinking.  I thought the same thing.  Billionaire playboy needs to marry so he can further advance his empire.  Enter smart, attractive female who will pretend to be his loving wife to help him attain his goal and gain something hereself.  Yes, the story seems to be all too familiar. But guess what?  I loved it!!!  I absolutely loved Reese Crane and Merina Van Heusen!!!

Both Reese and Merina are in the hotel business.  The only difference being that Reese’s company now owns Merina’s family’s hotel. They work together to get what they want.  Reese wants to be CEO and Merina wants her hotel back.  Why not get married?  After a short time (six months) they both get what they want.  As you can expect, things get much more involved than they expected.

I didn’t think I’d like Reese but once again I was pleasantly surprised. [NOTE:  I should’ve known better.  Jessica Lemmon always writes a great male character!]  I really liked Reese and I really loved Merina.  Even though their marriage was a “fake” they were pretty awesome together.

Once again Jessica Lemmon has written a great story with fantastic characters.  This was an awesome start to a new series. The Billionaire Bachelor got five hot and steamy lattes from me.  I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.  Bring on Tag (Reese’s brother).

ISHO Summary

One night. Let go. Be free.

Even at an early age, Reid Hunter’s future was already planned out. Though he was groomed to become successor of the family business, he quickly discovered his destiny wasn’t through his family’s legacy, but to build his own empire. His plan: takeover Vegas, one building at a time. Known as a hard, no-nonsense man, inside the boardroom and out, Reid isn’t prepared when he comes face to face with a woman from his past. The only one with the ability to make him question everything he stands for.

Raising a child is hard. Raising a child as a young, single mother is downright difficult. Yet Dani Whitley has managed to put herself through college, purchase her own home, and raise the unexpected, but greatly adored son she created while in college, after one night with a gorgeous stranger. Knowing nothing but his first name, Dani has managed to push all thought of Reid out of her mind until one day, nine years later, she is forced to face the man himself. Ruthless and callous, Reid Hunter is nothing like the young man she met at that music festival all those years ago. Yet Dani is still drawn to him, more than she was before.

Sin. Money. Success. Profits. That’s the foundation of Las Vegas. But what happens when one day you realize that it’s not enough? When the greatest thing you could profit is bigger and better than money: love.

isho-my-opinion2

I will start by admitting that I didn’t even read the synopsis of this book when I requested the ARC.  I just knew that I’ve enjoyed other Lacey Black books so that was enough for me.

As I began reading, I thought “Oh no! We’re doing the one night stand resulting in pregnancy thing again!”   [NOTE: Had I read the synopsis I would’ve known this.]  But as I kept reading I found that I couldn’t put it down.  The story was so good, with characters that I quickly fell in love with.

Neither one of them was ever able to forget that one night they shared.  When Dani finds out who Reid is she’s compelled to tell him about their child.  Things don’t quite go as planned but eventually they get on the same page.  Dani wants to protect her son and Reid wants more than anything to know his son and make up for lost time.  Reid did make me angry a couple of times and had me holding my breath for a bit there.

Once again, Lacey Black has written a fantastic story that kept me riveted and hoping that there wasn’t going to be too much angst (because I’m such a sap and cry all the time).  Profited got five of the most delicious coffees that warmed my belly and my heart.

On the Brink

ISHO Summary

Due to popular demand, Kate Willoughby brings you Hart Griffin and Jeremy Fenton’s origin story. Find out how these two met and fell in love…

Holtzer University junior Hart Griffin won’t let anything interfere with his future as a professional hockey player. No way, no how. He’s the star forward of his college team and a first round NHL draft pick.

One hot night with a male super fan calls into question everything Hart thought he knew about his sexuality and launches him on a soul-searching journey in which nothing is as it seems and his entire world is turned upside down.

isho-my-opinion2

This is a prequel novella about Hart and Jeremy, two characters that were introduced in Kate Willoughby’s In The Zone Series.  As they were already a couple in the series, this is a look into how they got together.  I will admit that I don’t usually read novellas because they just aren’t long enough.  That said, I absolutely had to read this for a couple of reasons: 1)  I loved the glimpses I got into Hart and Jeremy and wanted to know more and 2) this is Kate Willoughby!  I love her writing!

I totally understand how it would be difficult for Hart to admit to himself that he was gay. He’s on the verge of beginning his professional hockey career and he’s afraid of what being gay might mean for his future career. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Jeremy.  He’s out and proud.  He’s totally attracted to Hart and I will say that he’s incredibly patient with Hart.  One hot night turns into a great friendship which then turns into more.

I absolutely loved this book (even though I did wish it was longer).  I loved Jeremy and Hart and am so glad that Kate Willoughby wrote this.  I think she did a great job on her first m/m venture.  I think she kept it realistic and stayed true to the characters.  I look forward to more in this series.  I gave On the Brink five refreshing and delicious mocha cookie crumble frappuccinos.

Shut Out

ISHO Summary

From the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series comes the first novel of a new hockey romance series featuring a college team whose players are heating things up both on and off the ice.

The Bayard College hockey team isn’t where Jacob Flass thought he’d be a season ago. He was a rising star in the Canadian major junior league, cruising toward a spot on an NHL roster—until a single disastrous night on the town brought it all crashing down. Now he’s out of options, except for playing well, studying hard, and staying away from girls. He’s not supposed to be flirting with the hottest, sweetest chick he’s ever met. But how could he possibly stay away?

Skylar Lynwood knows that Jacob is out of her league. She’s just trying to go with the flow, which isn’t easy when six feet and four inches of total hockey hunkiness is making a play for her one moment, then giving her the cold shoulder the next. Skylar’s head tells her that this rugged athlete isn’t worth her time, but her body says something altogether different. Risking her heart for Jacob may be the craziest thing she’s ever done . . . but she won’t let him shut her out.

isho-my-opinion2

I decided to read this one for two reasons. 1) It’s a hockey romance and you all know how much I love a good hockey romance. And 2) It’s written by Kelly Jamieson.  I’ve read her Aces Hockey series and loved it.  At this point I think I need to read ALL her books!  Reading this one was a no brainer for me.

I absolutely loved Jacob and Skylar.  They both seemed very real to me.  Both have suffered through what I consider traumatic experiences.  Which ties in with the underlying message in this book.

This book is well written and got me hooked right away.  I couldn’t put it down.  It’s a great introduction to a new series.  I easily gave Shut Out five of my favourite Tim Horton’s coffees – I just have to go the Canadian route on this since Jacob is a Canadian hockey player.

ISHO Summary

Uncork this delectable Texas Hill Country romance from the critically acclaimed author of From Scratch, the “smart, sexy, and funny” debut that “piles on the Southern charm” (Publishers Weekly).

Margaret Stokes is bitter. And not in the robust fine wine or tangy dark chocolate kind of way. She just got dumped, is fed up with her job as a glorified party-planner for the rich, and can’t possibly listen to one more veiled insult from her impossible-to-please mother. So she retreats to the comfort of her grandmother’s ramshackle bed and breakfast, where the wide open vineyards are filled with surprises, from the shockingly delicious wine to the aggravating yet oh-so-tempting man who makes it.Ryan Camden’s easy approach to life encourages Margaret to loosen up and have a little fun, despite her better judgment. She resists the urge to micromanage every detail, embracing the welcome distractions of her surroundings and letting their relationship unfold at a natural rhythm. But when a health scare forces Grammy J to give up the B&B, Margaret begins to wonder if Ryan really is the man he promises—and whether the problems she tried so hard to escape ever really went away.

isho-my-opinion2

When I started reading this book I was not a fan of Margaret’s.  She just wasn’t a likeable character to me.  But as the story progressed I changed my mind about her. I felt so bad for her.  Yup.  She had my pity.  I’m sure she would’ve hated that but DAMN!!! Her mother was a first class biatch.  She loved her dad and got along with him but mostly, her dad did whatever kept her bitch of a mother happy or pleased.  Her friends were douchebags.  And as if all of the above wasn’t bad enough, she was hurt by the man she loved.

So naturally, when she meets Ryan, the sexy, flirty wine maker she’s pretty bitchy to him. Lucky for her, he’s a super patient guy.  He was a really likeable character.  It was as if he could see through all her BS.  He never gave up.

I enjoyed Margaret’s journey to understanding herself and to understanding that she didn’t need all those….shall we say “negative” people in her life.

I will mention that this is the second book in the Blue Plate series.  It went against all my OCDs to read this without reading the first book but it worked as a stand alone within a series.  I think I might just have to read the first one.

I enjoyed Sour Grapes.  The story and characters were well developed and definitely well written.  I usually rate in coffee but it just seemed appropriate to give this four red wine glasses.

ISHO Author BioMira dreams of a life where hairy-chested, foul-mouthed pool men serve cocktails while she reads in the embrace of a shady hammock. Her reality looks more like errands, carpooling, sneaking in writing time when she can, and snuggling with her husband and kids after a regular-old day in the Pacific Northwest.

Sex is sacred. It’s also fun. That’s why Mira writes smut with feeling. In her perfect world, every woman who wants it would have access to entertaining, titillating, thought-provoking stories in an environment free of shame.

ISHO Summary

The one guy she can’t have is the one she can’t forget.

Liam Quinn is one of the biggest movie stars in the world…and the only man Elissa Holt has ever truly loved.

After being out of her life for six years, he and his gorgeous fiancé are set to star in the new Broadway show Elissa is stage managing. The only trouble is, when late night rehearsals bring Elissa and Liam together, the line between what is and what could have been gets blurred. Now one moment of weakness is about to create a scandal that will echo around the world.

Elissa knows that falling for Liam again would be a tragedy in the making, but as any good romantic knows, love doesn’t always follow the script.

isho-my-opinion2

Do you believe in fate?  Do you believe that what is meant to be will be?  This is a theme that I found coming up again and again throughout this book.

I loved the previous two books in the series but I think this one is my favourite.  I felt so much for Elissa and Liam.  Can you imagine loving someone with all your heart and soul and not being able to be with that person?  That would be crushing.  The idea that sometimes things aren’t what they seem and that due to circumstances, that at first may have seemed like a good idea, you have no control over your life.  Sadness.  Despair.  Frustration.  Elation.  These are some of the feelings I had while reading this book.  I was rooting so hard for these characters.  Not just the two main ones but a couple of the secondary ones too.

Also, as a member of a certain fandom which shall not be named, parts of the storyline seemed to be art imitating life…well, depending on which end of the fandom you sit.

This book grabbed me right from the beginning and I enjoyed it right through.  I loved the story and the characters so it was an easy choice for me to give it five hot, steamy and delicious lattés.
