So many books…!!!

Rant

As someone who has a very, very, very long to read list (1,884 at this moment.  DON’T JUDGE ME!) I sometimes have a really hard time deciding what I will read next.

Sometimes it’s a no brainer.  For instance, if a book is released and I have been waiting for it for a while or I’m super excited about it, I will just ignore all other books, sometimes even putting the one I’m reading aside and dive right in.  Kristen Ashley books are definitely this for me.

Other times it’s a painstaking exercise of going through my to read list to try to pick one that strikes my fancy, or it’s a group decision made with my book besties so we can read it together.

I’m curious.  How do you choose what you’ll read next?  Do you follow your to read list or just pick at random? I REALLY WANT TO KNOW!

Coming Soon…

The Book BaristaI would say that this blog and reading are my hobbies.  Oh, and drinking coffee, too!  If only I could make a career of these things, my life would be perfect.  Well….almost perfect.

That said, I was thinking (I know some would consider this a dangerous activity) what if I incorporated my hobbies?  What if on Thursdays (my Tuesdays and Wednesdays are taken) I just let you know what I’m reading on my Kobo that day? Continue reading

Book Review: Naturally, Charlie by S.L. Scott

SUMMARY:

Twenty-five year old Charlotte “Charlie” Barrow is caught between her old life and the one she is beginning to build when she crosses paths with a handsome stranger on the subway. Not looking for romance, she closes her heart off to the possibilities of love. With a knack for mishaps, Charlie maintains her sense of humor while befriending the kind stranger who seems to be there at all the right times.

New York freelance writer, Charlie Adams, is forging his own path beyond the expectations of the society circles of his childhood. Rejecting family money, and fast-lane friends, he is snubbed by his family as he follows his own compass to a life more extraordinary.

Through a coincidence of events, they come to rely on each other for comfort. This is the tale of two Charlies learning to trust again while fighting their fates to create their own destiny.

What Makes Me Smile

Yesterday, as I sipped my Tim Horton’s coffee I found myself smiling. It lead me to think about all the things that make me smile. They aren’t always big things, in fact they are mostly little everyday things.

Since I’ve already mentioned the coffee, I’ll just elaborate a little bit.  Every time I take that first sip of a Tim Horton’s coffee I smile.  Sometimes, I even sigh.  Throw in a chocolate dip doughnut and that smile is wider and brighter.

My kids don’t always make me crazy. How can I not smile when second-born says “I love you mommy”.  Yeah, I know every mom smiles at that but I always smile when she says it out of the blue.  Then there are the few and far between times when they have a “sisterly” moment. When they’re not bickering or yelling at each other.  I have to smile at these moments because it makes me feel hopeful that someday, hopefully not in the too-distant future, they will be able to get along and be great friends as well as sisters.

Obviously, like anyone else, my guilty pleasures make me smile.  Two of my guiltiest pleasures are Nutella and reading.  I love getting home from work and just before starting dinner having a little bit of heaven (pronounced Nu-tel-la) on a slice of bread.  Mmmmm always make me smile when I take that first bite.

Then there’s reading.  What can I say about it other than, if I could sit and read all day, I’d gladly do it.  I often forgo sleep so I can read.  Getting a new book, be it a hard copy or an e-copy, makes me so very happy.

Another thing guaranteed to make me smile is the sight of my nephew (6yo) and niece (4yo) dancing.  They dance with so much intensity and enjoyment. How can I not smile?!  Whereas my nephew goes all out when you ask him to dance, my niece prefers not to be watched.  If she catches you watching the dancing ceases immediately, only to commence again when she “thinks” you’re not watching.

I always have to smile when I tell DH that I’m in the mood for something specific for dinner and before I can even tell him what it is, he guesses.  He’s always been able to do this. I don’t know how. I guess he just knows me really well.

I know it’s a bit childish but I can’t help but smile when my friend Cristina snorts when she laughs.  We’ve discovered that although we may not look it, we really are 12-year-old boys deep down inside.  We giggle, laugh AND snort (well she does) at the most inappropriate things.  Very much like Peter Griffin.  To know us is to love us…REALLY!!!

One thing that makes me smile until my face hurts is….ready for it?… ROB!!!!!

When he smiles, I smile
