The Book Barista

This is what’s on my Kobo today:

Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick, #7)

Sadie Townsend is known by all as The Ice Princess and she’s worked hard to earn her reputation. Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life and she’s learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder. But one inebriated night, she shows the Real Sadie to the undercover agent she knows is investigating her father, the handsome Hector Chavez, and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

Hector makes one (huge) mistake; he waits for Sadie to come to him. Tragedy strikes and Sadie’s got a choice, she can retreat behind her Ice Fortress or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World. Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new gay roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father’s thumb, a life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s’mores. Fictional Bikers

For those of you that know me, you know that I have a bit of an obsessive personality.  Yes, I know!  Knowing it is half the battle. So, you might be wondering what my latest obsession is.  BIKERS!!!!!

I have always appreciated a hot guy on a bike (those of you that follow me on Pinterest know this). Not a bicycle, a MOTORCYCLE. Preferably a Harley Davidson.

PH-bike

Parker Hurley looks might fine on that bike.

Coming Soon…

The Book BaristaI would say that this blog and reading are my hobbies.  Oh, and drinking coffee, too!  If only I could make a career of these things, my life would be perfect.  Well….almost perfect.

That said, I was thinking (I know some would consider this a dangerous activity) what if I incorporated my hobbies?  What if on Thursdays (my Tuesdays and Wednesdays are taken) I just let you know what I’m reading on my Kobo that day? Continue reading

What Makes Me Smile

Yesterday, as I sipped my Tim Horton’s coffee I found myself smiling. It lead me to think about all the things that make me smile. They aren’t always big things, in fact they are mostly little everyday things.

Since I’ve already mentioned the coffee, I’ll just elaborate a little bit.  Every time I take that first sip of a Tim Horton’s coffee I smile.  Sometimes, I even sigh.  Throw in a chocolate dip doughnut and that smile is wider and brighter.

My kids don’t always make me crazy. How can I not smile when second-born says “I love you mommy”.  Yeah, I know every mom smiles at that but I always smile when she says it out of the blue.  Then there are the few and far between times when they have a “sisterly” moment. When they’re not bickering or yelling at each other.  I have to smile at these moments because it makes me feel hopeful that someday, hopefully not in the too-distant future, they will be able to get along and be great friends as well as sisters.

Obviously, like anyone else, my guilty pleasures make me smile.  Two of my guiltiest pleasures are Nutella and reading.  I love getting home from work and just before starting dinner having a little bit of heaven (pronounced Nu-tel-la) on a slice of bread.  Mmmmm always make me smile when I take that first bite.

Then there’s reading.  What can I say about it other than, if I could sit and read all day, I’d gladly do it.  I often forgo sleep so I can read.  Getting a new book, be it a hard copy or an e-copy, makes me so very happy.

Another thing guaranteed to make me smile is the sight of my nephew (6yo) and niece (4yo) dancing.  They dance with so much intensity and enjoyment. How can I not smile?!  Whereas my nephew goes all out when you ask him to dance, my niece prefers not to be watched.  If she catches you watching the dancing ceases immediately, only to commence again when she “thinks” you’re not watching.

I always have to smile when I tell DH that I’m in the mood for something specific for dinner and before I can even tell him what it is, he guesses.  He’s always been able to do this. I don’t know how. I guess he just knows me really well.

I know it’s a bit childish but I can’t help but smile when my friend Cristina snorts when she laughs.  We’ve discovered that although we may not look it, we really are 12-year-old boys deep down inside.  We giggle, laugh AND snort (well she does) at the most inappropriate things.  Very much like Peter Griffin.  To know us is to love us…REALLY!!!

One thing that makes me smile until my face hurts is….ready for it?… ROB!!!!!

When he smiles, I smile

My Latest Mission

It’s been almost four years since I had to put my beloved cat of seventeen years down.  I miss him a lot.  I had him longer than I have had my own children.  For a long time, I didn’t even think about getting another cat, which made my husband happy.

Merlin - taken shortly before he passed away. Yes, he was old and crotchety but I loved him

You see, I’ve always been a cat lover. My husband… not so much!  When we got married, I begged and pleaded and hubby caved. We got Merlin!

After Merlin, DH made me promise that we would be pet-free for at least a year.  I had no problem making this promise as I couldn’t even think of replacing Merlin.  [W4R: Awwww, this is sooo sad! ;..(  I need a HEA ASAP!]

As I mentioned before, it’ll be four years at the end of March and now I am seriously wanting another cat.  My problem?  DH is not keen on the idea. [W4R:  Rut-roh!]

These are his claims:

  • He likes not living with fur everywhere. [NOTE: As you can see from the pic, Merlin was white and our wardrobe mainly consists of black and more black clothes. This was a constant issue for him.]
  • He says it’s nice to be able to go away and not worry about who’s going to look after the cat.
  • He says that he doesn’t want to have to constantly keep shooing the cat off the counter.[NOTE: Again, I draw your attention to the pic: Cat… counter…]
  • He likes not having a cat standing at his feet while he’s eating dinner.

All of his claims are valid.  [W4R:  Is that code word for “silly”?  Cats rule! LOL]  I’m not going to bother denying it.  I have to keep reminding him of the times when Merlin would sense him coming and would be waiting to greet him at the door when he came home from work.  And remind him of the times when Merlin used to cozy up to him on the couch while he watched TV.

So, my mission is to convince DH that we can have a cat again.  I’ve always liked black cats and would love to get one.  Especially one with blue eyes (as per first-born’s request).

Yes, a black cat with short fur wouldn’t shed as much, or at least you wouldn’t notice it as much on our black clothing.

We (first-born and I) have already picked out a name for our future cat [NOTE: that’s me trying to project positive thoughts to the universe 🙂]   His/her name is going to be Appleton Rumball.  [W4R:  WTF?]  I know, you’re thinking “WTF?!”  [W4R:  Yes, I totally was.. how’d you know that..?]  It’s just one of those things that first-born and I came up with together.  I suggested Rumball and she (loving all things Jamaican) thought of Appleton (as in the Jamaican Rum) and voila! Appleton Rumball.  [W4R:  Again, I say, WTF…. LOL haha…  ]

So what I’ve started doing is texting pics of cute little black kitties to DH throughout the day, with messages attached like:

Could this be Appleton Rumball?

Could *this* be Appleton Rumball?

I’m thinking that if I’m relentless and bombard him with all the cute images he’ll give in eventually.

Wish me luck!!!!  [W4R:  Good luck!!!!!  And give in, Mr. Stefter, go ahead & give your ladies what they want, you’ll only be happy that way, mister! 🙂  Oh and I have enclosed a photo below of one of the most awesomest (yes, I know that isn’t a word) cats around… LOL!]

Cats Rule, suckas!

**Writing4Roses is kind enough to look over my ramblings to make sure I’m dotting all my Is and crossing all my Ts (and to add the odd witty comment every here and there).
