I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Only For You is book one in the For You series and was published on September 24, 2013.
“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”
All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.
Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.
Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.
First off, I want to make a confession. It was the cover that first attracted me to this book. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COVER!!!! [Don’t ever let anyone tell you that the book cover doesn’t matter! I digress. This is a topic best left for another post.]
After finally tearing my eyes away from the cover I got into this story very quickly. Right from the beginning I liked Everleigh and her best friend Sam. They have a great relationship. You could say they are sisterly but I’d have to say that sisters don’t always get along and understand each other as well as Ev and Sam do. I also loved that Everleigh is such a coffee connoisseur. Coffee is almost like a secondary character in this book. Being a coffee lover myself, this totally worked for me.
Then of course, there is Hunter. [excuse me while I swoon for a moment or two.]
“He appeared to be mid-twenties, at least six feet two with broad shoulders…His defined bone structure was deliberate, but not sharp, with a squared jaw and prominent cheekbones. Shaggy ebony hair, slightly longer in front, framed his face and contrasted his bottomless aquamarine eyes in such a way they seemed to radiate light from within. His jaw was dusted with dark stubble that called attention to his lips, which were wide and appeared alluringly strong yet soft.”
The beauty about Hunter, aside from his obvious good looks, is his wit. I found him to be quite clever and funny. He certainly proved to be a match for Everleigh. He quickly becomes her best friend [Don’t worry. Sam is her BESTEST friend.] Oh and don’t get me started on his tattoo!!!
Meanwhile, there are some heinous crimes going on at the university, which Hunter is doing his best to protect Everleigh and Sam from. As the crimes escalate in violence the tension increases.
As is often the case, there is a secondary character in this book that I totally loved and swooned over. Griffin. He’s the sexy, strong, loyal bartender. I guarantee you are going to love him too. The good news is that he’s in book two of this series, Pieces For You which will be released December 17th. [Don’t mind me as I do my happy dance.]
Only For You is very well written and was a pleasure to read therefore, I gave it 4 cups of the best organic coffee that Everleigh would approve of.
